The project team adapted the Reggio Emilio approaches to learning environments to create a preschool that is truly extraordinary. Working with beautiful mature existing trees and an abundance of space, but little else that would be suitable for a preschool environment, CMG proposed removing all of the expansive asphalt play surfaces and replacing them with a rich variety of play and learning environments for the children. The result is a series of age specific play areas directly associated with the classrooms, as well as “destination” environments such as a Swing Room, Meadow, Forest, Theater / Amphitheater, Farm, Butterfly Garden, and Town Square.
