The construction of two new student services buildings instigated CMG’s development of Diablo Valley’s Campus Commons. Finding inspiration in traditional plazas and town squares, CMG designed the Commons as a blank canvas for school life that accommodates both large crowds and more intimate groups. Intricate moments are found between circulation paths and at the landscape’s intersection with the new buildings. The Commons encompasses a dining terrace, stage and shade pavilion, and a lawn “beach.” The landscape incorporates storm water infiltration gardens, new native tree plantings, and the preservation of large existing trees.
