Cultural Landscapes

Cultural landscapes are geographic areas that have been shaped by human activity. They can result from a conscious design or plan. They can evolve as a byproduct or result of people’s activities. Whatever their origin, every cultural landscape changes during the course of its existence through entropy, growth and, ultimately, human action. CMG collaborated with Perkins + Will (formerly SMWM) on two Cultural Landscape Assessments of incredibly rich landscapes in the Presidio of San Francisco: the Fort Scott Cultural Landscape Assessment and the Presidio Public Health Services Hospital District Cultural Landscape Report. As a matter of course CMG researches the cultural and ecological significance of sites that we work on.
