Pier 40

CMG and Perkins + Will (formerly SMWM) were solicited by a private developer to study the potential reuse of Pier 40. A three level building with twenty foot high ceilings and a fifteen acre footprint, Pier 40 has the potential for nearly two million square feet of usable space. The landscape strategy creates a continuous topography that connects the street level of the Hudson River Park with all levels of Pier 40. By folding the public landscape throughout the building, with the addition of various landscape systems, a continuous surface becomes an event landscape that challenges the notions of park and building.
