This distinct area of Los Angeles consists of a remarkable juxtaposition of heavy port related industry and historic residential neighborhoods, with patches of undeveloped open space. While the planning efforts main focus was to complete a missing link of the CA Coastal Trail, numerous issues found at the heart of contemporary urban planning projects including social equity and environmental conditions were addressed in the Linkages Plan. Underutilized and abandoned open space and blighted private property were identified as parcels to bind with trails and improved access to the waters edge and existing pockets of existing, developed park land.
