Brainwash Plaza is the first sidewalk plaza designed for Public Architecture’s SoMa Open Space Strategy. A long community table is the centerpiece of the design. The table serves café patrons and provides open space to the community at large; the table acts as a much needed gathering space within the neighborhood. CMG incorporated environmentally sustainable practices by replacing existing concrete with sustainable pavers and maintaining existing trees. In lieu of using traditional bollards to separate a seating area from street traffic, a planter provides separation from the street as well as stormwater filtration and vegetation.
