Bay Meadows | Landing Green

San Francisco, CA

A three-block linear park conceived as a beautiful strolling garden.

The Landing Green is intended to support more relaxed and social activities than some of the other active recreation parks in the Bay Meadows neighborhood. The gardens feature a wide variety of places to sit, with drought-tolerant, durable planting and elegant forms and details designed with economy and durability in mind.

The design includes serene garden environments with benches and cafe tables, a lawn to throw a frisbee or walk a dog, and a few lightly programmed areas with north-south paths to separate them. The park offers a dining terrace, social lounge, bocce court, succulent garden, a central flexible lawn, and children’s play garden. A lawn features a large-scale modernist sculpture made of cor-ten steel by internationally acclaimed San Mateo sculptor Chuck Ginnever, entitled “San Mateo Bridge.”

As with the other Bay Meadows public parks, CMG collaborated closely with the City of San Mateo Recreation and Parks Department.
