Project Captain

The Position

Project Captains play an important role in both leading and supporting CMG’s work. In this position, you are pivotal in making information visible – from idea conception all the way through to realizing it within the built environment – your job is to help facilitate a collaborative process.

We are seeking a person who will:

  • Utilize their excellent graphic abilities, spatial awareness, problem-solving and communication skills to conceptualize and guide the development of ideas through studies and presentations.
  • Develop and coordinate project documentation, with a rounded approach encompassing planning, design, code, constructability, and cost analysis.
  • Participate in project planning – including fee management, work plans, and teaming strategies.
  • Support project goals by building trusting relationships with an inclusive internal and external project team.
  • Take an active role building workplace culture and institutional knowledge through sharing of ideas and information.

Experience + Skills

If this position seems interesting, then you are at an exciting point in your career! You have been through several cycles of design and documentation (and perhaps construction!). You are hungry for what comes next.

We hope to find someone with:

  • A degree in landscape architecture or a related field.
  • Approximately 3-5 years professional experience practicing landscape architecture, architecture, or planning.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Competent knowledge of current landscape design issues and practices, including a strong understanding of landscape systems (ideally California ecology and climate).
  • Some knowledge about how to carry a planning or design idea forward and make it real, accessible, and implementable.
  • The ability to manage digital design tools and workflows.
  • Some exposure to construction oversight.
  • Some experience in project management and consultant coordination.

Personal Approach

While we ultimately work in teams that require intensive collaboration, we also recognize that as individuals, we all have specific talents that are unique to our personalities that allow us to do our work well.

We’d love to connect if you:

  • Take initiative and responsibility for accuracy in your work, manage yourself with humility, and are willing to ask for help when needed.
  • Embrace independence and dive into design studies and/or technical documentation with equal enthusiasm.
  • Are energized by finding creative solutions to challenging problems.
  • Welcome the input of others, know dialogue is critical to constructive review, and approach your work with curiosity.
  • Intelligently develop and guide processes for both colleagues and clients towards a shared goal.
