Choreography of Activity Through Public Open Space
Crafted through years of neighborhood outreach and community planning, Mission Rock transforms a surface parking lot just south of Oracle Park into a vibrant new community that includes 1,500 new rental homes with 40% dedicated to affordable units for low- and middle-income families, as well as small shops and cafes, and 8 acres of parks and open space. The public realm cultivates a thriving street life for this new neighborhood, providing diverse experiences and creating an inviting and memorable urban district.

The streets and open space also play a pivotal role in the neighborhood’s resilience and sustainability. With integrated infrastructure, stormwater management, and thoughtful planting strategies, Mission Rock cleans storm water, sequesters carbon, and protects from sea level rise, ensuring this vibrant public realm remains adaptable and resilient for generations to come. The project is a substantial link along San Francisco’s waterfront open space and a dynamic addition to the Mission Bay neighborhood.
