Following a successful and lively opening day celebration of Cityside Park on Sept. 13, San Francisco Chronicle interviews park-goers and receives initial feedback on the new public space! Visitors from Daly City to Union City and San Francisco to Oakland transited to the island to be some of the first to enjoy the Bay’s newest park.⁠

Yerba Buena Island

Situated in the middle of San Francisco Bay, Yerba Buena Island is a remarkable 150-acre ecological resource with many unique and significant features, including steep topography and vegetated hillsides; dramatic views of San Francisco Bay and Treasure Island; a deep cultural history; and intact communities of native flora and fauna – some unique to Yerba Buena Island. The redevelopment of the island balances new housing, infrastructure and the programming of active open spaces with protection and restoration of the island’s natural character in a way that respects its ecological diversity and habitat.
